a long walk for a big bum

got back from tampa yesterday about 2pm and didnt leave the 4 walls until about 730pm today.  got drunk during the day and had to sleep it off. so tired of drinking yuengling, took a long way to knightly spirits to get something - anything - good.  got some CCB 'hotter than helles' and its excellent.  i needed an excuse to get out of the house and get some exercise.  it was about 4.5 miles and it was a strenuous walk for sure.  got back and went straight into the pool.  invigorating! tomorrow i will just drink at the bar and looks like get the opportunity to even do some karaoke.

making a concerted effort to stay up late tonite, thus not having my first drink until about 11pm.  just put on 'slingblade' and really relaxing.  its been a hell of a trip.

Bike Rental - the problem solver!

I have a growingly distinct plan to hit a variety of record and thrift stores this week.  But as spread out as the city is - and as far in the outskirts I currently reside - this makes things very difficult sans motorized vehicle.  Even next year when I bring my plan to fruition (to purchase a bike case and ship a bicycle down here), it would still be difficult.  Because while I can get around the area via bike once I arrive I would be looking at a 20 mile minimum ride to get to/from the area.  30-35 miles to hit some record stores is out of the ordinary even for my own obsessive collecting/riding behavior.

On a lark, I checked for bike rental facilities and found that all three is in northwest Orlando, right in the area that I plan to visit! Better yet, each is near a SunRail station!

Retro City Cycles is only .5 miles from the Florida Hospital station.  It is also right next door to Rock N' Roll Heaven - which is the first of three record stores I plan to hit.

Kyle's Bike Shop is only 2.2 miles from the Lynx Central station.  That isn't too far, but at 4.5 miles plus the other general walking and riding over the course of the day, that can get tough.

Breakaway Bicycles is only 0.1 miles from the Winter Park station.  However, they are closed on Mondays. Also this is the furthest removed from the general area to hit stores.

Mileage aside, I do worry about one of these three stores and/or the stores I plan to hunt for records at being closed for Columbus Day.  Not much I can do to find out about that at 830pm on a Sunday besides wait and cross my fingers.  All three of the record stores show that they are open on Monday's so hopefully they are not prone to the holiday also.

Link 8 awaits

Got a 1/5th of Old Grandad and $50 worth of groceries. Just taking it very easily as Mr. Blue would say; biding my time.

arrival

I've had a serious computer problem for a lot of years.  It is insane that I would bring my tablet and this old laptop when my phone alone is just as capable.  The laptop is strictly so I can type quickly - as I am right now.  But man is this thing heavy....it probably weighs as much as all my clothes and everything else I brought.  I just realized also I forgot to bring my portable speakers.  Not a huge deal but it has inspired me to make a master list or guide book or something for myself.  Every year I start over and make a new list and I forget something new or bring something extra.  Or I spend time researching again things like bus routes.  I need to have it all written out in one place so I can just be ready to go right away.  And I'll get it done this week (already started) but its funny that it only took me 13 years or so to come up with this plan.

The walk from the end of the 111 link to my place is brutal.  It is only a mile but carrying all that heavy shit is rough.  And I cant bare to waste a trip past my beloved CVS and not buy whatever or anything I can as I make that walk so many times in a week.  God knows CVS is not a place to find great deals on beer (just glad they have it at all) but its hilarious when something is NOT on sale.  Heiniken was $17.50 a 12 pack!  I grabbed Yuengling instead - not my favorite but drinkable.  About 1/2 way through #1 right now.

Besides my other stupidity booking my flight this year (and being forced to use Spirit for a one way) I realize that I will have to take a cab next week which will be mighty expensive.  The first 111 link on Saturday's is about 5:30am but it takes about an hour and my flight leaves at 7:30am.  I am tempted to roll the dice....I have a week to think about it.

I also decided that sometime in the next year I am going to buy a bike case and ship a bike down here.  No more walking or renting bikes or any of this madness.  Having my own bike down here would just be too sweet.

I grabbed some pasta and sauce (the best 'groceries' I could get from CVS) on the way here and tomorrow AM I am going to do the big load up via link 8 and carry back as much grub as I can.  I'll still be supplementing that with many walks to CVS late night.

Going to do a major thrift store and record store hunt either Monday or tomorrow.  Either way I will likely continue/complete that hunt on Thursday.

This beer tastes so sweet and I don't mean that in a good way.  But it is beer and its early, I am relaxed and a marathon of 'Lockup' is on MSNBC, so I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.  All is well.

Nerd requires power

Forgot to transfer any movies to my tablet for the flight. No worries - got plenty on my laptop.

Problem: laptop has horrid performance on battery. Had trouble finding power but Operation: BronsonFlicks is in full effect as of right now.

Aaaaaand.....they're off!

I fucking hate Spirit. I just watched them pitch credit cards in the gate and I'll bet they do it on the plane. Baggage rules are garbage - I'm not trying to bring a foot locker on board but this bag (filled as it is) is about an inch from costing me $100. Fuck you Spirit - fuck you very much.

Vacation has begun. Let's do this!
